INTERVIEW:
- What is your musical background, and what inspired you to produce dance music, specifically Electro?
Growing up I was into every type of music, it sounds cliche but I really had phases where I liked everything. But I’ve been listening to dance music since I was in elementary school. When I was 14 I started producing music and got serious about it in about 2007 when I first heard the new generation of electro.
- Over the summer you spent some time in L.A. working with some huge names like Cold Blank and Peace Treaty, elaborate on what that experience was like.
Working with established producers and being in LA in general is just so much fun. Up until now I really haven’t collaborated much and so learning how to work with other producers and learning from them (their methods, tips, etc.) is great.
- As a young producer, what is the best piece of advice you can pass down to up-and-comers trying to “make it” in EDM?
Well there’s many different ways to “make it” in EDM and I feel its really about how far you personally want to take it. If you wanna be the rockstar tour DJ just know you’ll have to make music that appeals to alot of people. But I also think it’s important to work really hard to get your tracks sonically professional before putting songs out. I’ve learned a ton about mixing and mastering in the last few months and looking back there’s some tracks I wish I hadn’t put out. But if you have talent and a good work ethic, that’s a good foot in the door.
- Your last release, Front/Back EP has been a massive success, hanging around in the Beatport Electro House Top 10 for weeks now. How satisfying is it to finally have a track blowing up the Beatport charts, after giving away so much free music to the blogs?
It’s really awesome that the EP is doing so well and it’s incredible to see people from all around the world contact me and tell me how much they like what I’m producing.( It helps me especially when I doubt myself)
But I never looked at it as giving away free music to the blogs. I looked at it more as an outlet to share what I’ve created with the world. To me getting posted on a good blog is just as awesome as getting a good label to release your song.  it only helps build your fan base and really that’s what it’s all about.
- Your new release Jupiter is primed to make some serious noise on the charts as well. What would it mean to you as a producer to have two Beatport top tens, back to back and possibly two tracks in the Top 10 at the same time?
Haha that thought never crossed my mind. That would be unreal, it freaked me out everytime I looked at beatport and it was avicii, afrojack, then me , then zedd. It’s just cool to be In the same area as some of the genres biggest artists.
- Your side project Defep just dropped a sick remix of Rusko’s – Everyday that has been blowing up on all the blogs. Tell us a little bit about how Defep was formed and what the future has in store for the group? [Rusko - Everyday (Defep Remix) FREE DOWNLOAD]
Defep is myself, Killagraham, nymz and Henry Fong. We all met through DJing our Orlando party Riot Wednesdays and just decided to make music together. Our sound is geared a little more towards progressive house and we hope to be putting out more music and touring very soon.
- What does the future hold for DallasK?
This is a very good question! I’m finally starting to get shows all around the country so hopefully I’ll be touring almost full time. I say almost because I really want to spend time producing for other artists. I got a chance to work with some really talented mainstream artists when I was in California and I’m gonna focus energy on that. But for DallasK I have my single Jupiter out on Bazooka Records available on Beatport now and a remix of Spencer and Hill’s next single coming out on Sept 2nd that Im really excited for! But check my Facebook page for updates and tour dates because I will be announcing more very soon!
